Daughters of Liberty

Patriotic Female Resistance Association
The Daughters of Liberty, a female-led association supporting the American War for Independence, began in Boston around 1766. Women published patriotic poetry, exhorted men to join the patriot cause, boycotted British goods, and created replacement consumer products such as “Liberty Tea” and homespun textiles. Through these acts of protest, they expanded women’s political visibility and roles in colonial America.
