Abigail Adams

Adams, a self-taught intellectual from Weymouth, provided astute observations and an important historical record of the American Revolution in letters to her husband, statesman John Adams. She served as confidante and advisor to her husband when he became President, and to her son, President John Quincy Adams. For her famous exhortation to “Remember the Ladies” in the laws of the new United States, she is celebrated today as a woman unafraid to share her political commitments, and as someone who expanded the sphere of her sex.
