Our Bodies Ourselves started as the Boston Women’s Health Book Collective, when a group of women met during a feminist workshop in Boston and realized how little reliable and accessible information existed about their own bodies. Emerging amidst the women’s liberation movement of the late 1960s and 1970s, this collective created health resources “by and for women” that tackled still-taboo subjects like reproductive health, sexuality, and pleasure. They created the pioneering handbook Our Bodies, Ourselves, selling over four million copies. Our Bodies Ourselves continues to provide health and sexuality information, feminist analysis, and personal stories online, as part of Suffolk University's Center for Women's Health and Human Rights.
