Elizabeth Matelski, Ph.D.

Elizabeth Matelski is Distinguished Professor of History at Endicott College where she teaches courses on American women, gender, & sexuality, race, popular culture, and public history. Dr. Matelski earned a Ph.D. in History at Loyola University Chicago, and a B.A. in History at Ripon College. She is a two-time director of the National Endowment for the Humanities institute, “The Salem Witch Trials: Their World and Legacy,” and the author of Reducing Bodies: Mass Culture and the Female Figure in Postwar America (Routledge, 2017). She is currently researching the history of a local Massachusetts beach—Mingo Beach—and the formerly enslaved man after whom it was named. In 2022, Dr. Matelski was awarded Endicott’s Academic Excellence Award, which recognizes a faculty member for outstanding teaching, scholarship, and service to the College.
